On Development of a Food Logistics Center in Leningrad Region

This is the final report on the project aimed at giving recommendations on the de
velopment of a food logistics center in Leningrad region. The report starts with
the review of the food industry in contemporary Russia. The following aspects
important for understanding the topic are discussed: food producers, food proces
sors, retail trade, and logistics. Recent trends in consumer behavior and food retail
induced by the financial crisis are reviewed as well. Then a special emphasis is
given to St. Petersburg and Leningrad region. The report proceeds with a review
of decisionmaking aids in distribution center location problem. The final part of
the report gives practical suggestions and recommendations for decisionmaking
on distribution center location and points out to the directions for further research.
The report is based on scientific articles, research reports as well as news pub
lished in Russian internet media.
